Best Mattress and support on a high 4 poster bed, Simmons Beautyrest Black

Your email was hilarious..we are still laughing!  I love your sense of humor.  I shared it with a mutual friend of Suzanne and mine at dinner and we were laughing hysterically.  Thank you for being so candid and frank :-).  We have purchased a new house and are furnishing it right now before we move on Nov. 1 so obviously we need a new mattress to go with our new bed. From your email and the blogs it is obvious it is so easy to overspend on a new mattress.  The options are overwhelming.
That being said, what are your recommendations on a new mattress?  Any model we should check out and order? When we go to the mattress store, they obviously try to up-sell and our decorator has always just pushed the most expensive high-end product which may not be the best for our needs or even necessary.  We would like to keep it under $2500.00.  We are normal people who have very small children and obviously need to sleep whenever we can. My lower back is tight from always lifting the baby. Don't want a soft mattress.  Here are our stats again: I am 5'6", 130 and my husband is 5"11, 165. I am a side and/or stomach sleeper.  
With our 4 post bed and not wanting to have it be too high, we were told to look for a bunkie board rather than a box spring.  Is that correct?

Concerning the support for the mattress, consider the low profile boxspring or using several hardwood 1" x 3" slats topped with 3/4" plywood. A bunkie board is not strong enough.
