Latex or Innerspring Mattress for Herniated disc.

Marlene writes:

Hello.
I have been reading your blog and am really willing to try the latex mattresses.
My husband and I are ages 65 and 55, he has bulging discs, lower back pain as I do too.
As well I am awake with hot flashes through the night. We have been in king size waterbeds since we are married.
They both have been soft side mattresses with two separate bladders.
We need to replace this last one and feel we need to move on from our waterbeds.
I do not know where to start with our mattress hunt.
Do you have a recommendation as to what style/type to take a look at to begin our search.
We are both 5'8" - 170 lbs. side and back sleepers.
It is difficult to say what we like since we've been in the waterbed.
I really do not have a mattress comparison other to say we do not like hard, firm mattresses from traveling.
I saw from the blog the mattress you are currently in, it looks wonderful and the description sounds great however this may not be for us. Would you have a suggestion for us?
Marlene

Hi Marlene,
A latex mattress is a superior product when compared to ANY other type of foam mattress.
Use a firmer latex for a herniated disc.
A good firm innerspring mattress with a latex topper works very well, also.
