My husband and I are looking for a new king size mattress. We are currently using a queen size mattress that has springs that are too plush. My husband is 5'9" and 170lbs. My husbands biggest complaint on the firmer mattresses is that he thinks he will have shoulder pain when on his side, but at the same time he feels that he has better spinal alignment on a firm. My main problem is that I sleep very hot, i always have. A mattress with memory foam makes me sink into it and I have a very uncomfortable sleep. I'd rather have a foam that I don't sink in so much. I am also severely allergic to latex, but most manufacturers use synthetic.
We have looked at a Sealy Gaither Firm with DSI coils with a gel memory foam that claims to keep you cool. I am very hesitant on this, even though the mattress feels good when testing it in a showroom. We have looked a a Simmons Bannock, but the model didn't give us any info as to what the foam layers were, it also had a pillowtop and we don't like that our current pillowtop is flat, it was comfy though. Both the Sealy and Simmons were $1349 on sale for the set, not sure on the regular retail. We looked at a Stearns and Foster Beth Firm and like it too, it's just out of our price range. We have talked about it though. The dealer claims the bed will be good for 25 years? We planned on spending $1000.00 but have increased the amount to $1500.00 tax inc., because we don't want to do this again for a while. I see that you have the full collection of each brand online. We were only able to look at Ashley Home Furniture and Sears, so our trials have been limited by the small selection. Do you have any recommendations? Is Simmons better for the individually wrapped coils, since they have been using them for so long?

It is irresponsible for a salesman to claim that a mattress will last you as long as the length of the warranty indicates. He is either very new at his job, or is one of those who will say anything to make the sale.
There are plenty of both out there.
The allergen in latex is protein, which is removed during the manufacturing process that turns it into foam. Also, you have to be touching the latex to react to it. Even if the latex did not have the allergen removed, your mattress pad and sheets would eliminate your coming in direct contact.
The word, "cooler" is used to create the illusion that the memory foam is cool. It isn't. A more descriptive, more accurate term is, "less hot"...but as you can imagine, "cooler" has more sales appeal...forget that it's inaccurate.
The Simmons Beautyrest, Seay Posturepedic DSi and Stearns & Foster mattresses, all use and individually wrapped coil.
For motion reduction, the Simmons is best. There is a difference in the shape of the coil, (Barrel vs hour glass) and the pockets are glued together near the center.
Sealy/Stearns & Foster hour glass coils overlap at the top and the pockets are glued together near the top. Only the Simmons coils truly move independently from one another....and sleeps cooler than most.
Here is the link to that mattresses. I would suggest adding a 2" soft Latex topper for the extra comfort and pressure point relief you're looking for.
