A Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress for a very bad back

Hi,
To make this as short as possible...I've had a L5 herniated disc going on for 7 months now, have gotten 2 epidurals, and it has gotten better ever so slightly. I think it's time to change my mattress. I'm doing anything to avoid surgery. I have severe pain down the top of my hamstring and glut from nerve impingement. I was wondering if you had any advice on what the best mattress options for me could be? I am a 26 year old male, 5'09", weigh 175lbs.
Thanks.
Hope to hear from you soon. Phil

Hi Phil,
A diet of mostly fresh raw fruit and vegetables will, also, help you to avoid surgery.
(BTW, no juicers. The pulp is what makes it healthy.)
Also, walk...and walk often. And, if you're spending a lot of time in a seated position...like you would with a desk job...find something else to do....something that will keep you moving.
This, above all else, is the keep to totally avoiding surgery. Without it, everything else...the food, the exercise, and even the mattress will only delay your surgery. Without a complete commitment, you could very well be doing yourself greater harm, potentially. "IF", you are able to only delay surgery, you could find yourself older enough and less physically able to withstand it and less able to recover from it...and faced with no choice in the matter.

Your back, now, requires very firm support. At your size, there is a set that will provide that support and maintain it over a long period of time...and, at a reasonable price.
To assist in your avoidance, you will require a greater depth of sleep to aid your body in its self repairing ability. To provide that degree of comfort, ease of blood flow, and pressure point relief...and providing the degree of comfort for many years...you'll add a top layer of latex. Specifically, 2" of soft Talalay latex.

Order and use these two items together, and you will be doing the best you can from this aspect of your life. You will find that a deep, recooperative night's sleep, will improve attitude and out look...besides making it easier for your body to heal itself.

I, too, have plenty of physical ailments. There's only so much you can do from any one these things you change in your life. I have one of the best mattresses, with latex topper, that I have ever owned. We are large people and it feels as good as it did when we first got it, last October.
Most mattresses, today, wouldn't last even THAT long, let alone, feel like new.
My situation is different in many ways. The mattress I'm recommending is best for you.
Anyway, when you make these changes to deal with the pain, you're bound to be dealing with some measure of pain for a very long time. And, without that total commitment, your pain will be lifelong. There are a lot of pain meds to be had and most of them are dangerous. I'm telling you that 3 Extra Strength Excedrin does a fine job on the pain.

I would encourage you to share this response with all of your health care providers before you do anything else.

Finally, it's important to keep your head and neck properly aligned with your spine.
If you, like so many others, have problems finding a pillow that keeps its shape. Try the latex pillow, shown here. It's plenty comfy and lasts a very long time.
