My wife and I are shopping for a new mattress since our 10 year model has developed a ridge in the middle. We both have back issues and in our early 60's.I liked the Sealy Saybrook Point Ultra Plush latex mattress, but my wife thought it was too soft. We also looked at Serta's and she liked the Allure Plush model. It was hard enough for firm support, yet enveloped her everywhere else. She has lower disc problems and we both have neck problems. I didn't like the price. They say it is all latex but some of their web sites are confusing as to how much latex is actually in it. It seems that latex is the most popular material out there. We have also looked at Sealy's memory foam and didn't like the lag time in turning. We both sleep on our sides. Could you provide some guidance in this mattress jungle?
Hi John.
The Saybrook Point, our Rivercrest, is a very soft mattress. Try the starting model in the Sealy SpringFree line. It's comfortable without being too soft. We have it as the Beachside.
You should rotate your new mattress, at least, once a month for the first year. It should only be necessary a few times a year after that. If your bed is one of the thicker, softer models, it may be necessary to rotate it every couple of weeks for the first few months or so. People tend to sleep farther apart in a king size mattress. What happens is, the center where no one sleeps, stays like new while body impressions form on either side. To insure that the padding settles evenly, rotate the mattress a quarter turn. A king isn't exactly square, but it's square enough. It'll hang over about an inch on each side when turned this way.
