Shoulder Pain on a Tempur-Pedic Pro Adapt Memory Foam Mattress.

 Karen writes:

Hi Pete,

I have a Tempur-Pedic Pro Adapt medium firm mattress.

I am a side and back sleeper.

Within 6 months, I started experiencing increasing pain in my left shoulder.

To counter this, I purchased a Helix Premium Memory Foam Mattress Topper with GlacioTex™ - Soft.  Now my back is killing me and my shoulder is fine.

I suspect the topper is not suitable.

Is it a topper, new pillow, or both that I need? What might you recommend?

Thank you, Karen

Hi Karen,

Memory foam wears quickly. For that, and a few other reasons, it is thee worst possible choice when buying a mattress…contrary to the sales pitch you got.

Adding more memory foam, via a topper, only makes matters worse.

Conversely, pure organic and hypoallergenic latex foam is and has been the best upholstery material for more than a century…most supportive, most comfortable and longest lasting…and chemical free.

Discard your memory foam topper and add a 2” or 3” soft latex topper to your mattress. 2” is comfortable. 3” is more so.

Be sure to include the optional organic cotton cover with your order.

Let’s wait until you’ve done this before recommending a pillow.

Once your body is better aligned, you may find that  your current pillow doesn’t need replacing.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks, Pete - TME
