Hi TME,
We have a Sealy Posturepedic plush pillowtop mattress. It is very soft.
We’ve ended up with body impressions and then the hump in the center.
To be comfortable I try to sleep on the edge or the center as it feels firmer.
I'm a stomach sleeper and typically don't use a pillow & if I do it's just the corner edge of one.
At times during the night I turn onto my side which causes me to have back pain.
As for my husband, he's going thru neck & shoulder pain, so it seems if he sleeps on the couch he can sleep better and not wake up in extreme pain.
When he sleeps in the bed he wakes up in pain.
I was wondering if using a latex mattress topper would work, or would we still have it sink into the mattress impressions? When we aren't sleeping on the mattress, to look at it, it doesn't really showed pronounced impressions. But when we lay down, they form pretty quickly and get pretty deep.
Is there anything we can do to try getting this bed to being impression free as we both really like the softness of this bed.
I believe we've had this mattress for 3 yrs now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Peggy
Hi Peggy,
You indulged your sense of luxury with this mattress and now are paying for it with your pain.
While your conscience sense of comfort tells you that you like the feel of that mattress, your body clearly disagrees with you.
Your primary problem stems from buying a plush pillowtop mattress for a stomach sleeper. Stomach sleepers always sleep better on a firmer mattress.
Secondary, you chose a mattress that’s upholstered with memory foam…an upholstery material that’s notorious for not lasting for very long. After a short time, it loses much of its resiliency, allowing you sink easily into it.
The diabolical part of memory foam is that it looks ok when you’re not in bed, so that you won’t prevail in a warranty claim.
THAT’s why so many mattress manufacturers use it…including all of the, so called, name brands that has been sold to investors…or in Sealy’s case, to Tempurpedic.
Memory foam is the absolute worst upholstery material on the market, for those, and a couple of other reasons.
However, all is not lost and there is a way to salvage that mattress.
A latex topper is the solution, but not in the way you’re thinking.
Once your topper arrives, you must first flip the mattress over.
This will bring the coils close to the surface and relegate that useless memory foam to the bottom where it can no longer do you any harm.
Flipping the mattress will provide you and your husband with the firmer support you both need.
Then apply a 3” Soft Latex Topper to that and you will both have the support and comfort you’ll need to sleep well and without pain.
Be sure that you don’t cheap out with latex that’s produced in China.
Their latex is blended with clay and wears poorly, which ends up costing you more before the year is up.
Latex for Less has the lowest prices on the highest quality latex toppers available anywhere…Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex…and be sure to order the organic cotton cover to go with it.
Here’s the link you’ll need to order:
