Hello TME,
I’m considering buying a Stearns & Foster pillowtop mattress, but I’m having second thought about the pillowtop because of all the reviews saying that they wear prematurely.
When I tested beds, I liked what felt the best and presumed that by buying a premium mattress, durability would follow.
Now, I’m not so sure.
What do you feel is the difference in life expectancy between a pillowtop and a tight top mattress?
And is there a mattress you can suggest that would have a comparable feel without the wear issues of the pillowtop?
Thanks for your advice, Bob
Hi Bob,
It’s true. The pillowtop part is the first thing to wear.
When it becomes uncomfortable, the whole mattress is shot and needs replacing.
To mimic the feel, without the future experience of a new mattress so soon, a tight top mattress with a soft latex mattress topper is a much better option that will save you a ton of money down the road.
Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex is extremely long lasting and incredibly comfortable. Several years later, all you’ll need to replace is the topper.
The latex will have absorbed so much of your body weight, that the mattress will remain like new for decades.
Also, you’ll want to rethink buying a S&F mattress, or any other name brand mattress. None are the quality that made them famous, as all have been sold.
Sealy and S&F are now owned by Tempurpedic.
Simmons and Serta were purchased by an investment group and have become one company.
The thing that has caused their quality to plummet is that they are all upholstered with memory foam, which wears quickly and off gasses the toxic chemicals from which memory foam is made.
Since the pandemic, latex has become much more affordable than it had been in the past, and has been the superior upholstery material for the last century.
My recommendation for best value is buying factory direct from PlushBeds.
Their Luxury Bliss Mattress is Medium Firm with a 2” or 3” Soft Latex Topper.
2” is comfortable. 3” is more luxurious.
Be sure to opt for the organic cotton cover to go with the topper.
