Back and Hip Pain from a Too Firm Tempurpedic Mattress.

Colleen writes:

Hi TME,

I read your post about the pain with a sagging Tempurpedic.

I have a similar but opposite problem.

We too are just past the return period, and have thought this too firm thing would soften, but it hasn't despite heat, jumping on it, etc. etc.

I have a Tempurpedic medium firm hybrid and when I can sleep wake up with a low back and hip ache every day that has aged me 20 years, I think, so I sleep in the guest room these days.

We've tried 2 inch latex topper, then that plus a quilted cotton pillow top cover, then just the quilted.

Nothing helps - do you have any suggestions?

Thanks, Colleen

Hi Colleen,

Latex toppers are available in 2” and 3”, soft, medium or firm.

The 3” soft is recommended to soften the surface of a too firm mattress.

Latex for Less Pure, Organic Latex Mattress Toppers

However, there is something softer.

An Alternative Down Mattress Topper.

Unlike real down, synthetic down doesn’t flatten out anywhere near as easily.

It produces more of a cloud-like feel.

Here’s a link to one made by PlushBeds:

Thanks, TME
