Body Impressions on a Year Old Sealy Posturepedic Mattress.

Randy writes:

Hi Peter,

I am in the market for a new mattress, AGAIN, and don't want to make another costly mistake. About a year ago we purchased a Sealy Posturepedic mattress, which developed body impressions pretty quickly. They came out and inspected the mattress, but said the impressions were not deep enough to be a warranty issue.

They are only 1 inch deep, but it feels like we am sleeping in a hole.

My wife and I both sleep on our backs and sides.

She is 5'3" 135 lbs and I am 6'2" 255 lbs and I have three bulging dics in my lower back. We rotated our mattress faithfully every month but that didn't help with the depressions.

Just a poor qualty mattress with a 10 year warranty (what a joke).

We would like to purchase an all latex mattress or an innerspring mattress with latex.

Which do you think will hold up better in the long run?

Can you make a brand suggestion for me?

I need to get a good nights sleep again!

Thanks, Randy

Hi Randy,

It’s the memory foam in your Sealy mattress that makes the warranty a joke.

Memory foam softens as it warms from your body’s heat, causing you to sink far further than the 1” it measures with no one on it.

An all foam mattress…even all latex, which is the best of them…isn’t the right support for someone with disc problems.

An innerspring for support with latex upholstery is the way to go.

I have no greater recommendation than that which I sleep on personally.

I, too, have disc problems in my back.

The highest quality mattress that I can find while shopping at the industry trade shows, continues to be the Natura of Canada Greenspring, using an extremely high coil count and Natural Talalay Latex Upholstery for long lasting surface comfort.

My wife and I, each weighing more than 200 lbs., have been sleeping on their Ultra Plush model for the past 12 years and it’s still in like new condition.

There are 4 choices of comfort, with the ultra plush being the most comfortable.

Due to the high quality of the components, all of their models are firmer that other mattresses with the same comfort levels.

There’s also an old fashioned 2 sided model that’s available in plush or firm.

Given the big difference in weight between you and your wife, rotating your new mattress regularly will be important.

For that reason, and due to your preexisting back problems, I recommend staying with one of the 1 sided models.

These mattresses come with White Glove Delivery, which includes setup in your bedroom and removal of your old mattress and all packaging materials.

Delivery is Free and there’s No Sales Tax.
