Hi Pete,
I made a horrible mistake and bought a Sealy Posturpedic Mattress that’s made with memory foam.
The off-gassing is terrible! (I wish I had seen your website earlier).
I'm thinking of taking your advice and exchanging this for a pocketed coil mattress with no memory foam and then purchasing a latex mattress topper.
What do you recommend?
Thanks, Stan
Hi Stan,
The off gassing comes from the toxic chemicals used to make memory foam. It’s more than just a bad smell. It’s dangerous to your health.
You’ll have to be diligent when choosing your exchange mattress.
That is to say, don’t simply take the salesperson’s word for it.
Insist on seeing the specification sheet to be sure there’s no memory foam in it. I’m not suggesting that your salesperson would intentionally lie about it. But I have noticed that many of today’s salespeople aren’t well trained and may not know what’s in the mattresses they’re selling.
I recommend a mattress on the firmer side… firmer than you like.
The latex topper will provide long lasting, chemical free, surface comfort. 2” of soft latex is quite comfortable. 3” is a luxurious feel.
Get the cover to go with it.
