Replacing a Pure Talalay Bliss Talalay Latex Mattress Topper.

Sara writes:

Hello Pete,

Not to trauma dump, but the context of my story very much matters here. I recently completed a cross country move. And after 4 years in storage, I moved all my stuff here as well.

Although I paid for a climate-controlled, air-conditioned, expensive unit, I found that rats infested all of my things, including my beloved mattress.

I owned a queen Pure Talalay Bliss Talalay Latex mattress and it was my first large purchase. I opted for the medium firmness mattress and found after sleeping on it for a couple of months that it was too firm.

So I purchased the corresponding Pure Talalay Bliss 3” latex mattress topper, which made the most comfortable mattress combo I have ever slept in my life!

The rats completely eviscerated the topper. Not only was it urinated on, but it as chewed with pieces of it strewn throughout my unit.

On the other hand, and much to my glee, the mattress could be saved. While it was heavily urinated on, the included zip around cover as well as an additional cover purchased explicitly for the move, prevented the urine from penetrating the actual mattress.

Now I find that Pure Talalay Bliss appears to be out of business.

So my question is twofold:

1) Is there a 3” latex topper on the market to simulate the plushness of the PureBliss?

2) Is there a mattress zip around cover, like the one that came with the Pure Talalay Bliss, to replace the rat urine one, assuming I can't remove the stains?

Thank you! Any help and recommendations are much appreciated!

Hi Sara,

There are a number of ways to deal with the mattress… in order of expense.
A 5 sided waterproof mattress protector.
A 6 sided waterproof mattress encasement.
A new zipper cotton mattress encasement.

Here’s a link to the first two:

For a price quote on the 3rd, I’ll need to know the size of your mattress and its thickness.

Pure Talalay Bliss was forced to close 2 of their 3 plants during the pandemic.
All I’m getting from them, since then, is pillows.
Their mattresses and toppers were a blended combination of 30% natural Talalay and 70% synthetic latex.

Your topper options are: Pure Organic Dunlop and Pure Organic Talalay.
The Talalay is the softer and more expensive of the two.
Soft Dunlop is close in comfort and a lot less expensive.
The Talalay comes with an organic cotton cover.
The organic cotton cover for the Dunlop is optional, but recommended.

Here are the links to each:

Please, let me know if you have any further questions.
