Hi Joan,
For most, 2" of soft latex works well...and there's nothing about your size that would indicate needing anything else.
Before buying a new mattress, you may be able to get away with just a topper.
Since a firm mattress/topper combo is the way to go, and since you will be getting the topper regardless, try flipping your mattress over to the firmer poly foam side and adding a topper to that.
If, at that point, you still need a new mattress, then nothing is lost.
