Hi Pete,
Why does my latex mattress topper smell so bad?
I just bought a latex mattress topper from a local store.
Is it usual for the mattress to have s strong odor? Will it dissipate?
Should I be worried? Is it Toxic?
I appreciate your input.
Anna
Hi Anna,
Almost everything has an odor, of some sort.
It’s not usual for latex to smell bad.
The odors from latex are usually hard to detect.
You have to stick your nose into it to find the odor.
Dunlop latex smells like rubber, like sticking your nose into a bag of rubber bands. Talalay latex is more processed and tends to smell like cake.
However, you have to be careful when buying latex.
Much of what’s available in stores is made in China.
Chinese made latex has additives and fillers.
You could end up with God knows what.
Should you be worried? I suggest returning it.
Here are links to high quality latex mattress toppers… no fillers nor additives of any kind… pure, organic and hypoallergenic latex.
