Health Problems with Toxic Off-gassing from Memory Foam Mattresses.

John writes:

Hi Pete,

Are there health problems from the toxic gases being emitted from the memory foam in new mattresses? (Off-gassing?)

We just bought a Serta mattress and have since heard that toxic emissions could be a problem. Is there any truth to this?

There is a chemical smell coming from the mattress, but we've only had it for 3 days now.

Thanks, John

Hi John,

The problem is the toxic fumes emitted by memory foam....and it does, in fact, pose a health hazard.

Memory foam is comprised of 61 different chemicals.

Some are toxic and a couple are known carcinogens.

Many people react harshly, exhibiting respiratory problems from being exposed to fumes it gives off.

The worse reaction I've heard is bleeding sinuses.

Headaches are the most common complaint.

Unfortunately, most of today's mattress have it.

However, there are plenty of mattresses available that have no memory foam in them.

Don't rely on the lack of knowledge displayed by most salespeople.

There is a white label attached to one of the seams at the head end of the mattress, which shows by percentage the upholstery materials being used.

Visco foam and Gel Foam are other terms used for  memory foam.

We specialize is mattresses that contain no memory foam.
