2” or 3” Soft Latex Mattress Topper, Hip Pain and Herniated Discs?

Before I order a soft latex mattress topper, should I buy the 2" or 3"?

Issue is hip bursitis...no surgical history.

Husband is a back sleeper and is comfortable on our firm mattress.

He has herniated discs, and seems to like the firm feel.

Adding a pure, organic latex topper, which is incredibly resilient, will not negate the underlying firm support of the mattress.
