Simmons Beautyrest Mattress Sagging, Back Pain.

Mark writes:

Hi Pete,

I've not been happy with my Simmons Beautyrest mattress and am replacing it after 5 years due to sagging and back pain.

I'm a side sleeper with back pain whenever I sleep on a too soft mattress. I'm a male, 5' 9 and 160 lbs and my wife is a side sleeper and 130 lbs.

Is this Beautyrest sagging after only 5 years worth trying to enforce the 10 yr. manufacturer’s warranty?

It has all tags and is spotless under a mattress cover.

Thanks for making this site available. I grew up in a family specialty retail shoe business and that level, your level, of professionalism has almost disappeared. Mark

Hi Mark,

Simmons was sold in 2016.

The new owners are more concerned with profits than quality.

Since being sold, all of their products are upholstered with memory foam.

Because of that, nothing that they currently make is worth buying.

Memory foam is a tricky material, designed to recover when you get out of bed. So while the memory foam sags when you’re in bed, it may not sag enough to prevail in a warranty claim with nobody on the mattress.

(THIS, is how they enhance profits…by making the user a frequent buyer.)

Lay a straight edge across the mattress at the site of the sag.

Measure down from the bottom of the straight edge to determine the depth of the sustained sag. (Not into the stitching of the quilt.)

If your measurement is 1.5” or deeper, you could prevail in a warranty claim.

However, even if you do prevail, you’ll be addressing this same problem before long. A new Beautyrest won’t be any better made than yours is.

The problem with your mattress is twofold.

The memory foam, which is the worst upholstery material ever invented.

And, the steel used to make the coils is not tempered.

If you’re considering buying a new mattress, my recommendation is for a mattress that also uses an individually pocketed coil, with those coils made of tempered steel, which is much stronger, and upholstered with pure, organic and hypoallergenic latex foam, which has been the best upholstery material for the last 100+ years.

This will relieve your back pain and not sag, even after many years.

My recommendation, based on your sizes, is:

The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium Firm.
