A Mattress for a Very Bad Back.

Hi Pete,

I need a mattress for my husband’s very bad back.
He’s had 3 surgeries, which have not helped.
He wants something firm.
What do you recommend?
Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna,
It’s a common mistake for a back pain sufferer to assume that a firm mattress is the thing to get.
And while that thinking is correct, in terms of support, the mistake is in making the leap to a hard surface, which creates pressure point pain at the hips and shoulders. A hard feeling mattress solves one problem and creates another.
Firm contouring support and a comfortable sleeping surface is the key for him.

The mattress that provides long lasting firm support and a comfortable sleeping surface is:
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush (not as soft as it sounds.
This is the mattress my wife and I sleep on at home.
I have a very bad back. Yet this mattress allows me to sleep and wake without back pain.
This has been true for the 9 years we've had this mattress...still like new...very long lasting.

The support is quite firm.
The coils are made of firm heavy gauge double tempered steel.
These firm individually pocketed coils is the best you can do for a damaged back.
Keeping the spine in its proper alignment will relieve back pain.

Thanks, Pete

Using an old box spring to support any new mattress will cause premature wear and void the manufacturer’s warranty.

A waterproof mattress protector will extend the life of a mattress by keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry.
