Are box springs still used with mattress?

Good Morning,

Are box springs still used with mattress?
Thanks, Tim
Hi Tim,
Yes.
There was a dual purpose of using a box spring, originally.
100 years ago, every mattress was firm…really firm.
The big coiled springs in the box springs provided some contouring and held the mattress at a convenient height.
This was so for the next 50 years.
Mattresses got softer and plusher when polyurethane started being used in the mattresses, circa 1970. Cotton batting was used prior to that.
Even today, you still need something to support the mattress, without the reasons being the same as they were 100 years ago.
So the list of things that work are:
The floor
A platform bed.
A box spring…which usually requires a frame to support it.
An adjustable bed base.
Today’s box springs have no flex, as the did initially.
And, today’s box springs are cheaply made.
If going with a box spring, the stores with the best prices are:
Costco, Sam’s Club and Big Lots…none have delivery available.
If you’re unable to go pick one up and would prefer delivery, we carry a Foundation made by Magniflex.
It’s a bit dressy, upholstered in fabric with a choice of color.
They also come in 2 heights…5” or 8”.
Legs are available, which eliminates the need for a bed frame.
They arrive KD and are easy to assemble with no tools required.
Here is a link to those:
