Are you familiar with recent changes to the Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress series?
Specifically, we’re looking at the extra firm and medium L class.
We like a firmer mattress and leaning toward the extra firm but not sure if it’s worth waiting for the new ‘firm’ option to become available at retailers.
Is it really just a marketing re-brand, or have any significant changes been made to the mattress construction?
Also, in your opinion is it worth paying the extra $1000 for the C class/cooling upgrade?

It had been as you imagined…slight changes to specifications and model name changes every couple of years. This had been true for all the major brands.
But now, they’ve all been sold.
Tempurpedic bought Sealy/S&F and an investment group bought Serta and Simmons.
The high quality upholstery used by Simmons has been substituted for poor quality memory foam that wears quickly and off gasses the toxic chemicals from which memory is made.
Nothing Simmons makes today is worth buying.
All these major changes sent us to the industry trade shows to find higher quality alternatives to what once were the name brands that you could once trust to make a quality mattress.

Due to the high quality of these mattresses and the resiliency of the upholstery materials, they are all firmer than they sound.
Their Luxury Firm model strikes me as a good choice for you.
