Memory Foam Sucks! What Kind of Mattress for Bad Backs?

Well, ya know what sucks?!! 
I payed close to $2000.00 for a memory foam mattress. 
My son bought the same mattress and he says he thinks it’s to soft for his back. 
So, what kind of mattress do you recommend for bad backs? 
I also need a guest bed, and there are so many to choose from.
