Simmons Beautyrest Black Mattress and Latex Topper.

Your website seems to steer toward the Beautyrest Black FIRM mattress and Plush 3" topper.  
The hotel's mattress was as soft as a cloud to sink into, and that was one of its appeals. 
Will the combination you suggested feel anything like it?

Also, I plan to get a Queen platform bed with storage drawers beneath it. so 
I wouldn't want to have to use a stool to climb up onto a mattress over a box spring. Is a box spring necessary?  
Also, what is the thickness of the mattress alone?  
Currently, I don't have mattresses that are 20" or over but still have problems stretching fitted sheets over them.

You do not need a boxspring with a platform bed.
Which Beautyrest I’d recommend would depend on the sizes of the people using the mattress. 
The Simmons Beautyrest Black Desiree Luxury Firm mattress is what I recommend are for people exceeding 200 lbs.
For average size adults, the lesser expensive Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Gibson Grove Luxury Firm, is all you need.
In both cases, the mattress is 13.5” thick...plus the 3” latex topper.

Beautyrest mattresses, made for hotels, don’t have memory foam.
This is not available at retail stores.
The latex topper is necessary to keep the mattress from wearing out prematurely.
The Pure Talalay Bliss 3” Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper is very comfortable.
We use one at home.

Latex is also far more resilient than any other type of foam.
It provides a feeling of floating, not sinking.
