Sealy Conform Mattress uses Memory Foam that is not safe.

Esther writes:

Hi Pete,
I am wondering if the Sealy Conform mattress is safe, as it is all foam, something I am not familiar with.
They assure me that it is not toxic, but I would like to be sure of that. It says it has cool gel memory foam.
Thanks, Esther

Hi Esther,
First off, the gel is added to mitigate the fact that memory foam sleeps hot.
By all reports, the gel works...but only for a couple/few hours...then the mattress gets hot.
No official study has been done on the safety of memory foam.
From the chemicals that are used, like benzene and naphthalene; isocynates; methylene chloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane; acetone; ethylene oxide; formaldehyde; acetaldehyde; limonene; styrene; toluene di-isocyanate, which represent only some of the 61 chemicals used...and, the from the types of complaints I've heard about it, I'm willing to bet the farm that it is not safe.
You can look them up in a google search for yourself.

A foam mattress has been touted as good for pressure point relief, muscle relaxation and providing a deep night's sleep.
This, in and of itself, is a good thing....but provides poor support and doesn't last very long.
In fact, all of the name brands have been sold to investors. Tempurpedic bought Sealy and S&F.
Memory foam is what they all use to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
Memory foam is a poor quality upholstery material, besides causing a health hazard.

The mattress industry does a great job of selling this junk, and are experiencing a boon, as a result.
Manufacturers and retailers...all doing well.
It's a nightmare for the consumer.

If you want a quality mattress that will wear well, avoid mattresses upholstered with memory foam.

Thanks, Pete
