Simmons Beautyrest Legend Garrison Mattress on Clearance. Good Deal?

Hi Pete,
My husband and I are looking to upgrade to a Queen size mattress from a Full.  
I love a bargain, and I’ve been following your blog posts about the unnecessary markups on a chain store “Exclusive” mattresses.  
Their store near us is selling a floor model BeautyRest Legend Garrison Extra Firm for 71% off.  
It goes through a five point sanitation process (?) before it’s delivered to us.  
The mattress price, after taxes and $100 delivery fee, is $869. (Originally, the mattress was priced around $3,000.  Obviously exorbitant.)
With your extensive knowledge of mattresses, is it a terrible idea to buy a floor model?  
Does this particular model have good longevity?  
I love a firm mattress, and I like the feel of this one, but I’m unsure if the deal is too good to be true.

Hi Rebecca,
True floor samples usually sell at a 20-25% reduction.
And, floor samples don’t need to go through a sanitation process.
What you’d be buying is a mattress that has been in someone else’s home and returned under the terms of their comfort exchange.
You should know that before making a final decision.
Also, should you buy that mattress...or any Beautyrest, you’ll need a latex topper to insulate you from the memory foam and to extend the life of a mattress that only lasts a few years on its own...thanks to the memory foam in it.

With that clarification in mind, do you have an opinion on the quality of the Beautyrest Garrison at that $869 price point?

A Legend Beautyrest can only be purchased at that chain store.
It's an exclusive for them. And as so, it's way overpriced.
That $3000 is an inflated price.
The Legend in nothing more than a Platinum Series Beautyrest with a couple of extra bells and whistles that amount to very little.
You can buy a brand new, made factory fresh to fill your order, Platinum Series Extra Firm for only a little more than what you’ll pay for that used mattress.
