Back, Neck and Hip Pain on a Simmons Beautyrest Garmon Ultra Plush Mattress

Hello,
I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest Garmon mattress in ultra plush.
I have had this mattress for 31 days and it feels like it’s too firm for me. 
I was up with back, neck and hip pain. 
I am 5’9 150 lbs. I am a side sleeper. Did I get the wrong mattress? 
Should I return this and try something else?

Hi Alex, and Happy New Year.
You do have a bad mattress.
 
The two parts to a mattress are the inside and outside....the support and the upholstery.
In your case the coils are very soft, made non-tempered steel that is very thin.
The upholstery is memory foam.
Neither those, the coils nor the upholstery is resilient.
The coils don’t support your spine properly and the upholstery compresses easily.

There are two parts to your body, the inside and outside....simply put.
The inside, your spine, requires firm support, which that mattress is not providing.
The outside of your body, the pressure points, require a soft comfortable sleeping surface, which the memory foam is no longer providing.

When you bought that mattress, you relied on your sense of comfort to make the choice. When the materials in that mattress were new, it seemed fine.
But because the quality of those components are of such poor quality, the comfort and support were quickly lost.

Most mattress manufacturers change the upholstery materials to achieve a firm or plush feel...leaving the support, the coil system, the same.
Simmons does the opposite....changing the gauge of wire, which creates a greater depth of softness.
The thin wire used to make a plush Beautyrest wears much too quickly.

If you were to research, online, reviews on Simmons Beautyrest, you’ll find that they are no less than horrible. You’ll also find that the complaints are almost always about the plush and pillowtop models. Like you, people buy based solely on comfort.
And, salespeople push those models because it results in an easy sale.

Return your mattress for the same thing in a Luxury Firm Tight Top. 
(Tight Top meaning that it’s not a pillowtop).
You will still have the problem caused by the memory foam.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented.
Conversely, Latex is the best...most comfortable and extremely long lasting...remaining like new for many, many years.
