Replacing a very old Two Sided Mattress for an Elderly Person.

Hi Pete,
My elderly mom needs to replace her very old, 35+ year old mattress! 
We are looking at your two sided mattresses. 
I do not want her to have any problems, so we will likely hold onto her old mattress during the break-in period. 
Any thoughts as to how long we should hold onto her old mattress before she can be confident that the new one will work well for her?

Hi Virginia,
35 years is a very long time for any mattress.
Your mom has been used to sleeping on this mattress that is sure to have undergone some wearing.
Little by little, she has gotten used to the wear pattern that has developed.
On a new mattress, your mom's body will be suddenly become properly aligned. 
This takes a younger person anywhere from a couple of days to a week to get used to.
For an elderly person, her aging body may take quite a bit longer to straighten out without the pain this adjustment can cause.
If your mom's further life expectancy is a good 10 years or more, then it's worth the time it takes to adjust.
If you are simply trying to make her comfortable in her waning years, she may be better off with a latex topper to make what she has more comfortable.
