Replacing a two-sided Stearns & Foster Mattress from 1999.

Julie writes:

Hi Pete,
I think I'm in the market for a new mattress.  We got our queen sized Stearns and Foster in 1999.
We've been really good about flipping it every 3 months and it still looks great.  However, both my husband and I are losing weight and the mattress feels too firm.
We still have a way to go - he's 5'10" and 320 lbs, and I'm 5'6" and 310 lbs.  I'm a side sleeper and he's able to sleep in any position.
Thank you, Julie

Hi Julie,
You bought your mattress at a time when the quality was high. I'm not surprised that your mattress has lasted so long under your weights...given how well you've taken care of it.
Mattresses today, for the most part, aren't made nearly as well.
My question to you is, has your mattress lost support, or is it just too firm? Given that you've lost some of your personal padding, it seems like a logical question.
If all you need is to make what you have more comfortable, then all you need is a latex topper. Latex is very comfortable and extremely long lasting.
