Hello Pete,
My name is Louisa and I work with Meryl Toback Interiors.
We are looking for a mattress for one of our clients and have recommended The Ritz Carlton Hotel Mattresses in the past.
However, I read on your website that the version currently in production is much different and not as good as it used to be.
I was wondering if you might know the composition of the old version of the mattress so we can find a different, similar one.
Thanks!
Louisa

Hello Louisa,
Much has changed, over the past few years, since Sealy and Stearns & Foster were purchased by Tempurpedic.
But most recently, this past May, these hotel mattresses with no memory foam in them were dropped.
Now, every Sealy Posturepedic is loaded with memory foam.
Memory foam was introduced about 20 years ago.
It is the only foam that is temperature sensitive and slow to recover.
Some of the 61 chemicals it takes to make memory foam are toxic. Those toxic chemicals off-gas, creating a health hazard to the consumer.
Memory foam reacts to the body's heat...softening from it, which allows the user to sink into it.
Because it is a slow recovery foam, it isn't terribly resilient to begin with.
After a few months of softening and sinking, it loses the little resiliency it started with.
All of this is purposefully designed to cause the consumer to replace their mattress more frequently.
The truly diabolical part of memory foam is that it returns to it's original shape when you get off of the mattress...or, close enough to it, so that the consumer is highly unlikely to prevail in a warranty claim.
Not having to replace mattresses under the terms of the warranty, and instead, selling more mattresses for frequently to the same people has created a boon for the industry and for the big chain retailers that push that junk. And subsequently, it has been nightmare for the consumer.
It would better to avoid all the name brands when recommending a mattress to your clients. They have all betrayed the trust that they had spent decades building.
They all seem to be quite happy about substituting quality for profit.
All of the name brand mattresses are loaded with memory foam...the absolute worst upholstery material ever invented.
Hotels use, primarily, Sealy Posturpedic or Simmons Beautyrest mattresses.
In order to mimic the feel of these mattresses with those using high quality components...with no memory foam...I suggest that you recommend these brands instead.

Your customers will have a much more successful purchase, offering them a high quality product that offers long term support and comfort.
Continuing to promote name brand mattresses, all loaded with memory foam, is sure to result in many very unhappy customers.
In doing so, you risk damaging the reputation of your business.
