We have a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress which is not good for this.
What you you recommend as far as mattress type for his condition. When he wakes up he has pain down his legs and in his lower back.
We have been told an adjustable bed may help as well. I have been looking at the latex mattresses or even trying the mattress topper.
Any recommendations would be helpful.

Your husband is suffering from sciatica. A pinched nerve in his lower back is sending pain around his hip and down his legs.
You own the worst mattress you could have purchased for his condition.
His spine is out of alignment and an adjustable bed base won't fix that, either...a total waste of money.
