Glideaway Tilt Adjustable bed for a large man with herniated discs and sleep apnea.

Karen writes:

Good evening,
I had written in years ago and took your advice to "fix" our memory foam purchase mistake, by flipping the mattress and adding a latex topper. That latex topper has been life changing!
But now we are looking into getting 2 twin XL mattresses with a split king adjustable base.
We went and looked a little today, and of course the salesman is trying to convince us to get memory foam. I won't make that mistake again!

Here are our specs :
- I'm 5'4,  152 pounds and have mild scoliosis and neck pain. I mostly sleep on my side.
-My fiancé is 6'3, 305 pounds and has herniated disks on L5S1. He is also mostly a side sleeper.
He has trouble breathing at night due to his sleep apnea, and he snores.
And, my allergies have gotten worse since I've gotten older and sleep better propped up.

I love the feel and support of latex, so I had considered doing a full latex mattress. Previously, I've always really like Simmons Beautyrests.
My fiancĂ© fell in love with a Sealy "Center Support" firm mattress,  but it does have memory foam.
I would love your feedback on what we should look at, and where we could try them out locally.
Since we're doing a split king, it really doesn't matter if the mattresses are the same.
But we would need ones that could go on an adjustable base. Do you have any recommendations for adjustable frames too?
Thanks! Karen

Hi Karen,
Happy to hear that my fix for you and your mattress worked so well...pleased, but not surprised.

A traditional adjustable bed base will present problems for you.
Having the bed tilted up, so that it is easier to breathe, will mean you won't be able to sleep on your side.
And, mattresses tend to wear faster when the bed is cranked up...as gravity will cause your body weight will shift to the where the mattress folds.
The acceleration of wear in that spot on the bed is dramatic at average body weight...let alone under a 300 lb. man.
The only thing those beds are good for, is if you use your bedroom as the room you hang out in....essentially, your living space.
For therapeutic purposes, it creates more problems than it solves.
When the bed is used to sleep in that cranked up position, it completely throws off the alignment of your spine.
You'll trade breathing better for a back ache.

At the January market, "Glideaway" introduced an adjustable bed base with a feature I've been looking for, for years.
Besides doing everything a regular adjustable bed does, this one can also tilt while remaining flat.
It's ideal for your purposes...allowing you to breathe more easily, without causing a back ache.
You'll be able to sleep on your sides...on what is a flat bed that tilts...helping to maintain your spine's natural alignment.
We established an account with Glideaway, but they have yet to figure out the logistics of nationwide delivery for an E-commerce account, like ours.
As yet, I am not able to order one for you, but you should be able to find it locally.

The mattress need to be strong and firm, to accommodate your husband's size and back issues.
The Wolf, two-sided Tulah model in firm, is the mattress I would recommend.
You, on the other hand, you should opt for the Brooklyn model in plush.

From The Wolf Company we have to offer two-sided, flippable mattressess…at a more reasonable price.
Alone, it provides the appropriate support, but it isn't comfortable.

So, you'll add to that, and all natural latex mattress topper....specifically, the Ever-Eden 3" Soft Vytex Dunlop Latex Topper.
