You will, certainly, need something to support the mattress
A full size boxspring under a queen size mattress won't work.
For the sake of saving money, you can put the mattress on the floor for the time being.
I can tell you from experience, after 2 weeks with the mattress on the floor, you'll get exercise that will make you feel younger and more fit....not easy, at first, but the end result is amazing.
