Advice on buying a new mattress. Replacing a Simmons Back Care.

Krista writes:

Hello Mattress Expert,
I have studied your website and am very appreciative of the helpful information you provide there. I am writing to see if you have any specific advice for my husband and me.
He is 6'2" and 205 pounds while I am 5'2" and 110 pounds. We currently sleep on a Simmons Back Care Enlightened Spirit 400 GS Summit Top that is about 10 years old. We both love this mattress and would buy it again if it were still available. We have no issues with indentations or sagging. It is the perfect firmness/softness for both of us. He sleeps on his back, stomach and sides while I sleep on my back and sides.
We are sizing up to a King Size bed hence the need for a new mattress. We would like to stay under $3,000 all in. Do you have any recommendations from your inventory for us? Our new BR set won't be delivered for 3-4 months so time is not an issue.
Thank you, Krista

Hi Krista,
Your old Back Care uses an interlocked coil unit, a Bonnell coil to be specific.
A Beautyrest uses an individually pocketed coil unit, which will produce a completely different support system.
The Bonnell coil produces a firm base support and is stronger than the individually pocketed coils, which produce a contouring support.
Also, there is no memory foam in your Back Care mattress, while today's Beautyrests use plenty of memory foam.
Memory foam is the worst material every invented for use in a mattress...designed for initial comfort that doesn't last, which causes the consumer to have to re-purchase a mattress every couple of years.
Besides the poor performance, memory foam consists of 61 different chemicals, some of which are toxic.
Also, memory foam sleeps hot.

If I had to choose one for you, based on your past experience, it would be the Wolf brand Adrian model.
The Adrian uses the same coil uses the same coil unit that is in your Back Care, and it is upholstered with all natural latex foam.
The comfort of latex is extraordinary, and very long lasting.
Latex has been the best upholstery material available for the past 100 years.

The downside, for some, is that the mattress and foundation arrive via Fed-ex...and, the foundation needs to be assembled.
The upside is that all this reduces the cost by quite a bit....only $1399.00 for the king set
The foundation assembles easily and the mattress is easy to handle.
The main upside is that you will end up with a mattress that is, by far, superior to anything Simmons has to offer at this time.
Here are a couple of links to follow. One is a video about the delivery.
