Old mattresses were upholstered with horse hair and cotton. This provided the perfect conditions for dust mites to get into the mattress to live and breed.
Today's foams provide a hostile environment for that. Now, dust mite simply gather on the surface of the mattress....as they feed on the dead skin cells you shed every night.
To keep their numbers to a minimum, launder your linens frequently and vacuum the surface of the mattress every time you strip the linens from it.
