A Child's first mattress, for the US & Canadian markets.

Hi there,
I came across your site and started reading through all the questions and answers and it seems pretty clear there are 2 different mattresses recommended for little ones depending on price point and coil vs foam. My little guy has a naturopedic crib mattress now and it's great but we are hoping to transition him to a full size bed around 18 months (mid to end of aug) and pass the crib mattress to the new baby (oct). I'm not sure which route to go though! He's a hot kid and I'm not sure if that makes a difference? I thought I had read that foam mattresses are not ideal for young kids? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!
Regards, Kimberly

Hi Kimberly,
To make a blanket statement about foam mattresses not being good for children is irresponsible, showing a lack of knowledge and understanding. There are 3 different types of foams. One of them, All-Natural Latex Foam, is one of the best choices you can make for a child's bed.
Memory foam is a very bad choice, as its 61 chemical composition is toxic, as well as offering poor support. Polyurethane foam is also a chemical based product. It isn't toxic like memory foam but doesn't have the same long lasting support and comfort of latex foam.

We also promote the Simmons Beautyrests for children. Both, latex and the individually pocketed coils of the Simmons Beautyrest, provide proper spinal alignment throughout the growth years of the child. These innerspring models are less expensive than an all latex mattress.

While latex is more expensive, it will last a whole lot longer. More importantly, it won't show signs of wear at anytime during the next 20 years

Wow thanks for your quick reply! I'm so impressed with your site and the consistent information that is given out. Do these mattress options ship to Canada? Is it a flat rate fee and what would be the estimated order and delivery time?
Thanks so much!
Kimberly

That's that NAFTA thing, causing the problem...free trade, indeed.
Anyway, the Sunshine model is all latex and the price reflects it.
The Moonbeam model has an inch of latex atop natural plant based foam.
For a little one, the Moonbeam is a fine choice, still getting the affects of sleeping on a surface of Talalay latex...very comfy and good support.
Naturally, the Sunshine is better and the best choice, but your budget will have to dictate which.
Frankly, you can't go wrong with either of them.

Ok, I had a feeling about that. It's easier to have things shipped from Australia from the US it seems. Maybe one day! Out of the Natura line what do you recommend and do you have to use a box spring?
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions!

Hi Kimberly,
We have tried, over the years, to include Canada. We've been met with an unbelievable amount of deterrents in the way of fees...entry fees, taxes, and a couple of others that I don't remember.
In short, a complete fiasco.
In January of this year, we took on a Toronto based company, Natura. They produce all natural products, including latex that's made here in the US.
And while I run into the same problems getting their goods to the US, it solved my Canadian shipping problem. We deliver their products, FREE, throughout Canada...and, we don't charge you Canada's sales tax. As an added bonus, the prices will reduce by a further 10% when you check out...allowing for the rate of money exchange.
Here is a link to Natura's Kidz line of mattresses. They take about 2 weeks to ship.

The boxspring/foundation is optional...as long as you have something solid on which to place and support the mattress.
Thanks, Pete
