Sciatica & Back Pain, A firm mattress with a soft latex foam topper.

Kactus writes:

Just purchased Stearns and Foster mattress-way too soft. I have a one time exchange with the store and am stymied, confused and uncertain. You consistently recommend S/F Heidi Luxury Firm with 2'' Talalay latex foam topper. One of the stores S/F models is a Luxury Firm with 2" Memory foam. Is this a good substitute for Heidi? The problems here: lower back pain with sciatica and pinched nerve in shoulder causing numbness in fingers. So which latex-soft,  med., or firm?
Thank you. Kactus

Hi Kactus,
Before the latex foam topper will be of any help, you'll need a better mattress.

No plush pillowtops of any brand. They all wear to the point of being uncomfortable within a year or two. You're better off getting the firm tight top and adding a soft Talalay latex foam topper. Latex takes many years to wear out and will add years of life to the mattress...not to mention the extraordinary comfort that only latex can provide. Here's a link to the latex toppers.
With your back problems, you can't afford to screw around with memory foam. It will make matters worse.
The Heidi has been discontinued and there isn't a model in the S&F line without memory foam, now that Tempurpedic owns the Sealy/S&F company.
Look at what other brands they have to offer.
