Adjustable Bed with a Latex Mattress

Camille writes:

Hi Pete,
My husband was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and has suffered from sleep apnea for years. We currently sleep on a Sleep Number bed that is nearly 20 years old and doesn't provide good support any more. He cannot get comfortable in bed and ends up sleeping in his recliner most nights. We are considering purchasing an adjustable bed along with a split-king mattress so we can adjust each side separately, but we can't decide between going with another sleep number air mattress or a memory foam mattress. Also, do you buy the adjustable frame separately or do they come with the mattress? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance, Camille

Hi Camille,
Since you haven't purchased a mattress in such a long time, you're in for a rude awakening. Neither the Sleep Number nor the memory foam mattress will hold up very well.
You are 20 years into what you have. You'll be lucky to get a couple of years from the new models today...and, they are very expensive.
I think you need to read up on those mattresses before you waste your money. Here are links to the blog posts concerning those products.

Yes, you can buy an adjustable bed base separately. Here is a link to them.

I would suggest a latex mattress for you. They are very resilient, as well as comfortable.

Thanks, Pete
