Simmons Beautyrest Flatbrook luxury firm mattress for a child's bed

I see that you highly recommend the Simmons Beautyrest Flatbrook Luxury Firm  for growing toddlers.  I have a 2yo.  Two questions:
(1)  is it necessary to have a box spring if I am going to put the mattress on the floor w/out a frame?
(2)  Can this mattress be flipped on both sides?

Hi Christy,
No. You don't need a boxspring. The purpose of the boxspring is to support the mattress at a convenient height. There's no better support for the mattress than the floor. 
These mattresses are one sided and unsleepable on the bottom side...much too stiff. 
For a child to grow up on, it's no less than a great mattress.
