The choice of these extra firm models are important to your herniated discs. By themselves, they aren't comfortable. But, either of these with a 2" soft Talalay latex topper, will provide long lasting support and comfort...relieving the pressure points of your body.

Hi Pete,
I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back, and have had trouble sleeping lately due to discomfort.
I'm currently using a Costco brand memory foam mattress that's 18 months old.
While it used to be comfortable, the foam has degraded and no longer supports my back.
I'd like to purchase a new mattress, but am unsure what to get.
I live in an area without road access, so my options are somewhat limited; especially when it comes to trying them out. The local mattress store can special order a Sealy or Simmons brand mattress for me, so those are my options.
From reading your blog, it sounds like a firm mattress with a separate latex topper would be a good combination for me.
Could you recommend a mattress and latex topper for me?
Thanks! Galen
Hi Galen,
While you are waiting to decide and then take delivery, flip your mattress over. You'll find that sleeping on the underside will be of benefit to you. You may even decide that it's good enough, that way, to put off the purchase of a new mattress for a while.
Since you have a Costco mattress, it may be that it was just more convenient for you, given your remote location. Most mattress that are purchased there, are because of price.
Here are two mattresses that will work for you. The first is a good choice if you have a limited budget. It's a Simmons Beautyrest World Class in Ultimate firm.
