Normally, a "Soft" topper is used with a firm mattress, which provides that nice balance of firm support and surface comfort.
The only reason to consider the "Medium" with a firm mattress, is if you are carrying a lot of weight....250 lbs or more.
The "Firm" topper is rarely used, except for extreme cases and almost always used for a male consumer with extreme back problems.
