Sealy Posturepedic vs. Simmons Beautyrest Mattress

Dear Pete,
I am considering getting the mattress combination that you frequently recommend in a queen size: Simmons Beautyrest World Class Annapolis Place luxury firm with a 2 inch latex topper. But I have read somewhere that Simmons mattresses have had premature sagging problems in the recent past, and that Sealy is now using the same springs  in the Posturepedic line. Do you know if that's true? If so, would a Sealy Posturepedic (something like the Peppermill Drive) be just as good a base under the 2 inch topper as the Simmons Beautyrest?

I like very good support, but get sore if the bed is too hard; my husband can sleep on the floor and be perfectly happy. (I'm 5' 9", 140 lbs., my husband is 6' 2", 175 lbs.) Which of these mattresses would you most recommend for us--the Annapolis Place, the Peppermill Drive (firm or ultra firm)? A mattress is a big purchase for us, so we really want to get something that will hold up for years with no sagging. I am considering the ultra firm models because they have less foam to break down and cause indentations. I figure I can always put more foam toppers on myself, if I have to. Does that make sense?
Also, could you please tell me more about the 2 inch latex topper that you sell? I am interested in something between soft and medium, if you have that. (I would have been inclined to go with medium, but it seems you recommend soft for most people.) Is is all natural latex or a blend? Is it talalay? Do you recommend a cover for it?
Thanks very much!
Sincerely, Elisabeth

Hi Elisabeth,
Many on-line review sites base their conclusions on an over view, rather than on specific mattresses.
A mattress store...every mattress store, will show and push the plush and pillowtop mattresses because they are easy to sell.
Most of what Simmons makes is based on these sales. The result is the reviews you've read.
The problems reported about these mattresses, don't occur when buying the firmer mattresses....which are not the big sellers.
If you notice, our website does not include any of the plush models....and for the reasons you mentioned.
Making a purchase, based on the incomplete information on these review sites, can easily result in a mistake.

There are far fewer coils in the Sealy Posturepedic Peppermill Drive than there are in the Simmons Beautyrest World Class.
Also, the individually pocketed coils in both mattresses are attached to each other differently. In the Sealy, the pockets are sealed together near the surface, while in the Simmons they are sealed together near the center. That difference provides greater independent movement of the coils in the Simmons, which translates into greater motion reduction...less movement felt from one person to the other,
Over thinking this is one of the most common mistakes made by people who are absorbing the incredible amount of valid and invalid information available in stores and on-line. Sifting through it all to find the truth is a daunting task.

The Latex toppers that we carry are 100% natural Talalay latex...the best available.
You simply can't go wrong with the Annapolis Place Luxury Firm and 2" soft latex topper.
