Need Help Choosing a Mattress, Simmons Beautyrest World Class, ON SALE now thru 2/20

I am 45 years old and had back surgery for a ruptured disc (L4-L5) two years ago. I have another disc that my surgeon said could go at any time. My husband is 48 and suffers from chronic head and neck pain from a work-related fall. He also has shoulder and elbow joint pain.
We are in desperate need of a new mattress and have NO idea where to begin. We have a Sealy pillow top that we purchased about 5 years ago. It has become incredibly uncomfortable for both of us. I toss and turn multiple times a night, trying to find a comfortable spot. I wake up with considerable lower back pain.
Can you please advise us on some options for a new mattress? I hate spending money on one, only to find it's not comfortable.

Hi Laura,
Pillowtops, while initially comfortable, compress and lose their shape too quickly. With so many physical issues, both of you are more sensitive to the changes a mattress goes through as it wears. The pillowtop part of the mattress is filled with poly and/or memory foam. Both are reasonably cheap and you have experienced the consequence of that lack of quality. 
There's only one foam that keeps its shape over the years, and that is latex. They don't use latex in pillowtops because it's expensive. But, latex foam has been the most resilient material available for the past 85 years.
Your backs require for support. You also require cushioning that will relieve the pressure points in your bodies. The only way to do both, is with a firm mattress and a layer of soft latex added to it. There, simply, is no other way.
