A Good Mattress and a Latex Topper for Under $1700

I was hoping to get the mattress and the topper for under $1600-$1700.  I am still considering the S&F, just wondering what I can get for a bit less and what the difference will be. 
We're average size people, so I'm just not sure if its necessary to have the bells and whistles of a S&F.  What is the best King size bed for $1200?  Thank you! Linda
