Our Simmons Beautyrest NxG 300 King mattress seems to be too soft. Both my husband and I wake up with horrible lower back pain. We bought our mattress a little less than 2yrs ago when I was pregnant, and it seemed great then. It was helpful for my arms falling asleep and numb spots on my hips during pregnancy, but now it feels so soft, it seems to have no support. We bought it from a wholesale dealer, so we can't exchange or return it. Before we give up and buy a new mattress, is there anything we can do to firm our bed up? Thanks, Jameela
Hi Jameela,
You can only firm up the surface feel....not the depth of softness from the mattress. A 2" Dunlop latex or a 2" medium Talalay latex topper will do that job.
The Dunlop is more dense than the Talalay and a little firmer as a result. Either will do the job of firming up the surface feel of the mattress.
Here is the link to those products.
Allow me to pontificate about what got you here...for the sake of others who may be researching.
The industry is geared to selling mattresses based on comfort...support and durability be damned.
You have to be very careful about that when buying. Your physical experience when shopping makes it easy to go with what's comfortable, giving no regard to anything else.
That, alone, is what got you where you are with that mattress. It happens all the time.
Memory foam and pillowtops are the two major products that provide wonderful initial comfort...the kind of comfort that makes the sale....the kind of comfort that is lost within months to a year...maybe two. These beds are much too expensive to only get a year or two of comfort.
Latex is and has been the best...most comfortable, most supportive and most durable of any type of mattress...since the 1920s. Not hyped, like memory foam, latex is expensive because it is expensively made and not because millions of dollars where spent to promote it. Memory foam is cheap junk...and, expensive to buy.
If you are planning on spending a lot of money on a mattress, get your money's worth with an all latex mattress. Here is a link to the pure LatexBLISS line...the premier manufacturer of latex mattresses, worldwide, for the last 60 years.
