I have an extra firm Simmons Beautyrest mattress. I don't know the name of the mattress but it is way too firm. I have it in my guest room. 
My daughter thought I should try a memory form topper but after reading about the chemicals I said no.

For the vast majority of people needing a latex topper for this purpose, the choice of the Ever-Eden all natural 2" soft Talalay topper does a great job. 
The 3" will have a greater depth of softness, but we find that slender people benefit most from that.
Average to above average weight people do better with the 2" soft Talalay.
