Adjustable Split King Bed and Memory Foam Mattress Needed.

Barney writes:

Hi,
We bought a king size Sealy Reflection Latex Venice Beach Ultra Plush in 2006 and overall it has been a disappointment. For the first year it was wonderful but then the top began to crush and we now have two hollows where we sleep. The hollows give us back issues and we need to change it fast. Apart from this bed, we do not suffer from bad backs.
Another issue was that is slept hot, really hot, and in Georgia that is not a good thing.
Our new bed will definitely be a split king with separate adjustable bases.
We were seduced by the idea of a latex bed seeing as experts, like yourself, seemed to prefer it but now we are not so sure. Also when we were looking 8-10 years ago we were not impressed by Tempurpedic type memory foams partly because of all the hype about them. Now, however we are wondering if we were wrong to exclude memory foams from our choices because we read that they sleep cool. In particular, Costco offers a range of adjustable memory foam beds that seem to be well rated by those who purchased them. For example:
But I wonder how they like them after a couple of years!
In summary, we need,
A good supporting bed NOT soft
Quality is important
Adjustable split king
Sleeps cool
We are 150lb and 110lb and normal body mass indices
Suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks, Barney

Hi Barney,
It wasn't the latex that failed you, it was the soft poly foam on top, used to create the ultra plush feel.
And, if you think that poly foam performed poorly, memory foam is even worse.
I suggest you do some research before making that mistake. You can start with those who write to me about that.
Here are a couple of blog categories with plenty of posts for your enlightenment.

Adjustable bed bases are terrific if you use your bedroom to hang out in...or if you need to raise your head a little to breather better...or raise the foot a little for better circulation in your legs.
However, if you're buying an adjustable bed base because you think it will help with your back problems, it won't.
Lying flat with your spine in it's proper, natural alignment is the only thing that helps with back pain.
You have some damage. If you want you back to do what it can to repair itself, you have to stop aggravating it. Spending your nights with your spine properly aligned is the best you can do.
Crank up the head or foot of an adjustable bed, and your spine's natural and proper alignment is lost.
You may feel temporary relief, but you'll be doing more harm than good.

I suggest that you take the mattress you have and flip it over. Add to the underside, a 2" layer of all natural latex for the long lasting comfort that the poly foam did not provide.
