Latex Mattress on a Forever Foundation or a Platform Bed.

Judy writes:

Hi Pete,
I was looking at your 'forever foundations.'
I'm thinking of putting a latex mattress on top and the slats look like they could be a bit "pokey" against the soft latex as they are more narrow than typical wood slats.
I was also interested in the hybrid approach with one of your coil foundations but again wondered if the coils would be more "pokey" on the latex than wood slats or even a platform approach?
Many thanks, Judy

Hi Judy,
You're envisioning "Pokey" where it doesn't exist.
Nothing you're considering here will be pokey.
Thanks, Pete

Thanks for that, Pete
Which foundation approach do you recommend for latex - between the forever foundation and the coil?
Thanks, Judy

Hi Judy,
An all latex mattress is, by far, the best of the all foam mattresses.
But even so, an all foam mattress of any type isn't the right choice for anyone with disc related back problems.
Once a person gets to be older and heavier, it's better to assume that some disc wear has occurred. Under those circumstances, you're much better off with an innerspring mattress, which provides the "push back" support needed for wearing and worn discs.
The best of those are the Natura Greenspring mattresses, which are upholstered with natural latex. We sleep on one at home.
The most comfortable of them is the Liberty Plush EuroTop, shown here:

If you are reasonably young and reasonably fit, there's nothing more comfortable than an all latex mattress.
Of the ones we carry, I prefer to recommend the EverEden brand, as they are all natural and more reasonably priced.
Of them, the 9" ordered with a medium core and soft top is my recommendation to maximize comfort. An all natural, all latex mattress tends to last for decades.

The Forever Foundation is the last you'll need.
But a good wooden platform bed with the proper center supports will do just find.
Unless you're very heavy in weight, it's a matter of style and taste.

Hi Pete,
Wow! You're a wealth of information.  I will visit your site, read your great info, and hope to become a customer.
I can see you are passionate about what you do.  And, I also see your customers love you!!
Thanks for your balanced and great input - yes- I know exactly what you mean that over time everyone has disc degeneration (whether they know it or not)...it's just a matter of degree.
My son plays tennis with an orthopedist and as a faithful advocate, he was asking the doc about his dad's bad knees, telling him that his father pretty much just uses the lower impact elliptical these days at the gym. Interestingly the doctor told him that "to be honest, if you want knees that will last, you should switch over to low impact activities by the time you're 30 because otherwise it's inevitable that you will have some painful changes down the line."  Not many people take that advice (including the Dr who was playing on hard surface courts!).. but he was right-- and you are right!
Great advice- many thanks-Judy
