Is a new boxspring necessary when buying a new mattress?

The one we have is only a few years old. The mattress has become uncomfortable, but the boxspring appears to be in good shape.
Also, should we rotate our mattress, since it can't be flipped?

You are the 2nd "Sylvia", in as many weeks, to grace me with your presence....a name I see far too seldom, since my Grandmother with the same name passed more than 30 years ago.
Naturally, my thoughts go to her and our time together whenever I see her name.

Today's boxsprings are very rigid, with very little play. There's not much "engineering" involved.
The only reason to buy a new boxspring is because the warranty of the mattress is automatically void when used without the matching boxspring. 
On one hand, it isn't likely to matter.
On the other hand, it's a small difference in price for the peace of mind.

The mattress is, basically, one sided and not made to be flipped. 
It can be flipped later in its life to provide firmer support and e tend the life.
Rotating is important. Body weight is the determining factor.
Your torso lies, primarily, on the top half. So, you rotate for even wear.
The heavier you are, the more important it is....less so for small people.
Also, as is often the case, the husband can be vastly different than the wife in size.
Here again, is a good reason to rotate frequently...for even wear over the years.

The easiest way to rotate the mattress is with one of you guys  on each side.
Lift and spin...a little at a time, so that you strain yourself as little as possible.
If you have children, get them to do it.
