Advice on new firm mattress, Simmons Black & Latex topper.

Marlene writes:

Hi Peter,
I've bought my last two mattresses from you, both very firm S&F tight-tops.  I read with dismay on your website that S&F is no longer a recommended brand.  The last one I had was an S&F Holly Court, and it was very good, but it now sags in the middle.  I'm a side-sleeper who gets hip bursitis, unfortunately.  I can't stand beds where you sink into the mattress, making it hard to get up and turn over, so I'd like to stick to very firm tight-top, with a topper, if necessary, for my hip problems.  I want an inner spring mattress, if that's possible.  What do you suggest?
I'm 5', 185 lbs.
Thanks, Marlene

Hi Marlene,
Welcome back.
No one was more disappointed than me, when Tempurpedic bought Sealy/S&F...and the subsequent new line came out with so much memory foam in every model.
The latex topper does the best job of relieving hip and shoulder pain long term.
The best/strongest option is the Simmons Beautyrest Black Alexia extra firm mattress with a 2" soft Talalay latex topper.
Here are links to both items.
Call when you are ready to order.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

  1. I have Stearns and Foster Mattress which was equal to the Holly
Court but purchased it back in 2007, I loved this mattress so much. It was
time to get a new one. My husband weighs about 270 lbs and I gained over
100 lbs since my last purchase due to chronic leg clots and not getting
enough exercise. I was so surprised how much mattresses have changed. I
ordered one from Macy's but realize they are quite different. I have curves
and arthritis and am 62 years old. I didn't realize they had a lot of
memory foam. I went with a Rockwell Estate luxury plush. It had good
support. The cushion firm was to hard on my chest and lungs for I am a side
sleeper. I also have chronic back and leg pain. I have 120 day trial
period. What I liked about this one it felt a lot like the Holly Court. I
also didn't feel like I was sinking into the mattress with this one.It is a
    fairly heavy mattress
It still has somewhat of an older style mattress feel. I have a 120 night
trial period, I am on a budget and this one ran a little over $2,000. I
also saw that someone else commented recently about the Holly Court. I
guess I can let you know how it works out.

    Regards,
    Donna
