Platform Bed with a Latex Mattress

Chris writes:

I am going to buy my first platform bed next week.  I have no idea what mattress to buy for it or what the base is, slats or solid.
I toss and turn on my pillow top that I paid almost $2000 for, but a firm mattress hurts my hips.  What would you recommend?
It looks like Pure Bliss latex is a good option, but which one and do I need a base or just the mattress?
Thank you for your time and expertise. Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,
The criteria for choosing a platform bed is in support.
There should be a lot of slats with very little space between them. Those cross slats need to be supported in the middle by a center beam that runs head to foot. That center beam needs to have, at least, two legs that go to the floor.
The ones we carry, have all the support you need. In fact, I have one in my guest room with a latex mattress.
There aren't mattresses made specifically for a platform bed. A good mattress is a good mattress and a bad mattress is a bad mattress, no matter what is supporting it.
Quite often, the expensive innerspring and memory foam ones are the worst, as you have discovered.
Staying away from memory foam and soft pillowtops is "job 1" when sifting through the mine field of mattresses available. (The bad ones abound, while the good ones are much harder to find)
Latex is and has always been the best available...and the Pure LatexBLISS people make the most comfortable of them, using 100% Talalay latex. I would suggest starting with the least expensive and add a latex topper if you feel the need for more surface softness. The starting model is plenty comfy on its own. Here's the link to that mattress....and to the toppers, if you need one.

A bit less costly is the EverEden, using a Dunlop latex core, which is firmer and more dense than Talalay latex...less expensive to produce. They have 3 models, two with soft Talalay toppers built in. The 8" is what I bought for the platform be in my guest room. We have since added a 2" soft Talalay latex topper for more firmness. Reports I get about the 9" EverEden model are that it is quite comfortable on its own and doesn't need a topper. Here are the links to the EverEden latex models and to our platform beds

  2. I want to buy a platform bed using a Dunlop latex core. It's a nice mattress to sleep on makes a world of difference.
    Anne.

    Hi Anne,
I agree, it's a great feel...and, unlike memory foam, all natural, chemical free and long lasting.
