Expensive Stearns and Foster Mattress is Causing Pain.

Hello Peter,
I have recently discovered your website and have been impressed with your knowledge (seemingly) and your helpful spirit.

My wife, (57, 5', 109;) and I, (60, 6'1", 240',) about 7 years ago purchased a very expensive Stearns and Foster mattress. Looking at the tag, it is predominantly polyurethane, and we hate sleeping on it.
But hate the idea of buying a new one more.... money has gone to other things, like putting kids thru college, mortgage, etc...

Any suggestions as to what would improve our outlook in the mornings?
She has both fibromyalgia and disc degeneration and I suffer from lower back issues, but the mornings are the absolute worst time of the day for both of us until we're up and about for at least an hour.
I'm not sure, but I don't think that's the way to wake up.

Thank you and I look forward to your response.
Michael
Hi Michael,
You bought a mattress with too much upholstery material.
THIS is why you’re waking up in pain.
Adding more, as in a latex topper, isn’t going to help.
You overbought, be it either to indulge your sense of luxury or to satisfy the erroneous notion that “if it cost more, it must be better”.
Regardless of the reason, there’s no band aid to fix that kind of mistake.
If you would like a recommendation for a new mattress set, let me know.

Thanks, Pete

Hey Pete.
Thank you. A harsh reality, but none the less, a accurate assessment.
We listened to a floor salesman who assured us that,  because of the disparity in our sizes, what we needed was a better mattress.

As it is, aging only makes things hurt worse :-)

I would love if you had a moment, to make a suggestion for a mattress that would meet our particular situation.

Again, I have found your information to be most helpful.
Thank youMichael

Hi Michael,
The key to getting what each of you needs, lies in the quality of the components.
Polyurethane foam is cheap...and the primary offender in your mattress...and, there’s a lot of it.
Less of a high quality upholstery will serve both of you much better and for far longer.
Unfortunately for the consumers, all of the name brands have gone bad...going from bad to worse by substituting the lowest quality memory foam for the low quality polyurethane foam.
The highest quality upholstery material is and has always been natural latex.
It’s both, comfortable and resilient...providing the feeling of floating, as opposed to sinking.
The best choice for you and Lynn is the Natura of Canada Greenspring Plush EuroTop.
There’s plenty of support for a big man and enough surface comfort for her fibromyalgia.
Here’s a link to that line, and another to that specific mattress.
Everything we sell is freshly made to fill each order.
Wait time varies.
To NC, it’s approximately 3 weeks.
White Glove Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.

ALSO IMPORTANT:
I suggest using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will greatly extend the life and loft of the upholstery materials inside. Ours sleep cool and make NO Noise.
